Zomentum integrates with Xero using a dual-transaction approach to ensure accurate financial records while working within Xero's current API limitations. This article explains how bank transfers are pushed to Xero, how bank feed lines work, and what users should expect during the reconciliation process.
How Zomentum Pushes Transactions to Xero?
Before bank feeds: Zomentum posted bank transfers as accounting transactions (a withdrawal from the source account and a deposit to the destination account). Because no bank feed lines existed, Xero treated these as internal transfers and they appeared reconciled immediately.
With bank feeds enabled: Zomentum now posts the same transfer information to Xero and writes a bank feed line that represents what the bank reported. Xero shows the bank feed line as unreconciled until it’s confirmed, even though the matching accounting entries already exist. This separation preserves an auditable trail (what the bank reported vs. what’s recorded in the ledger) and helps catch real-world differences (timing issues, bank fees, refunds, chargebacks).
How to Reconcile in Xero?
In Zomentum: Transfer is processed and sent to Xero.
In Xero: Zomentum creates the bank transfer accounting entries (withdrawal and deposit).
In Xero Bank Feed: A bank feed line representing the bank’s statement appears in Accounting → Bank accounts → Reconcile and shows as unreconciled.
In Xero Reconcile screen: Xero will usually suggest the matching transaction; click OK to accept and mark the bank feed line as reconciled.
If the suggested match is incorrect or absent, use Find & Match, a Bank Rule, or Cash Coding to reconcile.
Note: Until the bank feed line is confirmed in Xero, the bank feed shows the entry as unreconciled despite matching accounting transactions being present.
Why manual confirmation is required?
Xero’s public API does not allow third parties to automatically perform the final action of marking bank statement lines as reconciled. Because of that platform limitation, Zomentum can push both the ledger entries and the bank feed lines but cannot complete the ‘click OK’ action inside Xero on your behalf.
How to optimise the reconciliation process in Xero?
1. Use Xero Bank Rules
Create rules that auto-suggest the correct account code, contact, and description for recurring Zomentum transactions.
Rules can auto-populate suggestions so you only need to click OK to reconcile.
2. Use Cash Coding for bulk updates
For high-volume feeds, Cash Coding lets you code and reconcile multiple, similar statement lines in bulk.
3. Use Find & Match carefully
If Xero’s suggestion is missing, use Find & Match to search for the Zomentum-created transaction and link it to the feed line.
4. Reauthorize if you don’t see feed lines
Reconnect or re-authorize Xero in Zomentum to ensure the integration has permission to push feed entries.
