When a quote from Zomentum is pushed to Autotask, labor line items follow Autotask best practices and are sent as labor lines. However, users often notice that these labor lines do not get converted into billing items when running the Win Opportunity Wizard in Autotask.
This is expected behavior due to the way labor billing works in Autotask.

How Autotask Handles Labor Billing
According to Autotask’s documentation, the Win Opportunity Wizard does not convert labor line items into charges. Instead, labor is billed based on technician time entries recorded on tickets or project tasks.
Key Considerations:
- Labor billing is based on time entries, not pre-defined charges.
- Time entries are date- and time-sensitive and must be logged manually or automatically via a contract.
- The resource, role, work type, and contract settings in Autotask determine how labor is billed.
How to Bill Labor in Autotask
Since labor items from a Zomentum quote cannot be directly converted into billing items, you have two options for ensuring proper labor billing in Autotask:
✅ Recommended Approach: Use a Fixed Price or Time & Materials Contract
- Create a Fixed Price Contract in Autotask.
- Set up a billing milestone that matches the quoted amount from Zomentum.
- Technicians log time entries against the contract.
- These time entries do not generate separate charges but are absorbed into the contract.
- Bill the contract according to your invoicing schedule.
This is the correct and best-practice approach in Autotask, ensuring that quoted labor is billed correctly while still allowing time tracking for resource management.
❌ Workaround (Not Recommended): Convert Labor to a Product Line
- Instead of pushing labor as a labor line, you could push it as a product line item to allow the Win Opportunity Wizard to generate a billing item.
- However, this can lead to double-billing, because:
- Technicians still need to log time entries, and those entries would still need to be billed or absorbed into a contract.
- This method does not properly track time worked vs. time billed.
This is not a recommended approach, as it bypasses Autotask’s intended labor tracking and billing process.
Next Steps
Since labor billing in Autotask is outside Zomentum’s control, we recommend speaking with your Autotask consultant or Kaseya/Datto’s support team for further guidance on setting up labor billing workflows.
